In the video below Street Photographer Subodh Shetty discusses how he approaches people while practicing Street Photography. There are thousands of videos and articles on the internet that try to tackle our fear of approaching strangers on the street but this one has one of the best ideas I’ve heard. Part way through he talks about challenging yourself to get a subject to take another photograph when they confront you, convince them it’s a good idea. He does this masterfully in the video, give it a gander.
Next time you go out with your camera, instead of being afraid of being confronted, look for an opportunity to try and get someone to agree to another shot after they confront you. Most people will calm down once you explain what you’re doing and most of them will agree to having their photograph taken again.
